About Orlando
Introduction to Orlando

Once upon a time, Orlando was a quiet small town, typical Florida farmland with cattle, cotton and citrus groves. Then in 1971, Disney waved the magic wand and Mickey Mouse and friends moved to town. Fast forward to today. Disney brought much more than Mickey, Goofy and the Gang. Orlando is the tourism capital of the world…top of the travel wish list for children of all ages and many adults. A world-class airport makes getting there easy and convenient. Orlando International Airport (MCO) is like a well-run attraction with sleek monorails whisking visitors to and from planeside. Downtown Orlando and most major attractions are only 15-20 minutes away. Major car rental companies offer special Florida rates and Lynx, the city’s public transportation serves all areas of Orlando.

With all of the options and opportunities for fun in Orlando, it pays to plan ahead. Most visitors start with Walt Disney World’s four theme parks. Say hello to Mickey at the Magic Kingdom.Visit the future and take a trip around the world at Epcot. Talk to the animals at Animal Kingdom and tap the glamour of Hollywood at MGM Studios. Move on and immerse yourself in the underwater world and exciting rides at Seaworld Orlando. Go behind the scenes and become part of the action at Universal Studios Florida. Get wet and wild at Universal’s Island of Adventure. Dinners dish up more excitement and ethnicity. Celebrate New Year’s Eve every night at Disney’s Pleasure Island. Dine with knights at Medieval Times, sultans at Arabian Nights or pirates at Pirates Dinner Show.

When the thrill of theme parks wears thin, take a break and sample other unique activities. Swim with dolphins at Discovery Cove. It is an amazing experience. See the unbelievable at Ripley’s Believe it or Not, Orlando Odditorium and Wonderworks. Tour Titanic – The Exhibition. Drive a real NASCAR. Rise above the crowds with Magic Sunrise Hot Air Balloons. Blast off at nearby Kennedy Space Center. Or for more sophisticated sojourns, sample one of many area museums. Savor nature’s beauty at the World of Orchids. Marvel at the treasures of the Orient at Florida Splendid China.

Get the idea? With over 95 attractions, 3800 restaurants, 150 area golf courses, 44 million square feet of retail shopping, and an endless smorgasbord of parades, special events and nightlife, there’s something here for everyone. Make the most of the magic in Orlando!

When to Visit Orlando
Orlando's temperate climate - and the lure of the Mouse - make it a year-round destination. Planning to visit Disney World is akin to studying Sun Tzu's The Art of War. Visiting Orlando can be much the same if the D-World is on your itinerary. As a general rule, avoid school holidays. Otherwise, try to avoid the peak summer period; before Thanksgiving and after (up until Christmas) and then late January are good bets.
